"How much NMN should I take?" is the most common question we get — and the honest answer is a range, not a number. Here's how to find your place in it using what human research actually tested.

What the trials used

Published human studies cluster around three tiers:

  • 250–300 mg/day — the most common trial dose. Reliably elevates NAD⁺, well tolerated, and the basis of EFSA's 2026 favorable safety opinion (up to 300 mg/day for ≥99% pure β-NMN).
  • 500–600 mg/day — used in several performance and metabolic trials, with some studies suggesting stronger functional outcomes than lower doses.
  • 900–1,200 mg/day — tested safely in healthy adults; chosen by users who want to saturate the studied range.

Across all tiers, the safety profile has been consistently clean. The practical question is less "is it safe" and more "where's the point of diminishing returns for me."

Dosage by age

NAD⁺ decline steepens with age, so a reasonable heuristic scales with it:

AgeSuggested daily NMNLogic
30–40250–500 mgDecline has begun but is moderate; maintenance dosing
40–55500–1,000 mgThe steepest part of the NAD⁺ curve — most users here feel the clearest difference
55+500–1,000 mgBaseline demand is highest; trials in older adults used this range

Under 30? Your NAD⁺ production is likely still robust — NMN is optional at that point, and basics like sleep, exercise, and sunlight deliver more.

Dosage by goal

  • General maintenance / prevention: 250–500 mg daily is a sensible floor. One 250 mg lozenge or one sustained-release tablet covers it.
  • Energy, focus, recovery (the 40–60 sweet spot): 500–1,000 mg. Two Pure NMN capsules or one scoop of powder.
  • Maximum studied intake: 1,000 mg/day — our capsules' full serving. Beyond that, evidence for added benefit thins.

How to start (and how to judge)

Begin at the lower end of your tier for the first week, then move to your target. Take it in the morning — NAD⁺ metabolism follows circadian rhythm, and daytime dosing aligns with it (a small minority feel too alert taking it late).

Then run a fair trial: 60–90 days, daily, before judging. Track two or three concrete things — afternoon energy, workout recovery, morning clarity. NAD⁺ restoration is cumulative infrastructure work, not a stimulant hit. If budget is the constraint, remember the arithmetic: a consistent 500 mg every day beats an inconsistent 1,000 mg, and bulk powder makes a full gram cost less than a daily coffee.

One caveat worth repeating: if you're pregnant, breastfeeding, managing a medical condition, or taking prescription medication, talk to your physician before starting NMN — as with any supplement.
